Joe Biden - What a Dope!

Biden’s oops moment in SF: “Giants on their way to Super Bowl”

Vice President Joe Biden had his “oops” moment Wednesday speaking in a 49er-crazed San Francisco when he told a crowd at a city political fundraiser that “the Giants are on their way to the Super Bowl.”
Biden spoke at a closed event in the city’s financial District at the Bently Reserve when he made the gaffe, according to a White House pool report released today.

The comment by Biden drew immediate “good-natured” boos from the crowd, according to the report by Josh Richman of the Oakland Tribune, who was the only local print reporter allowed to cover the event.

After suggesting that the Giants were heading to the Super Bowl, Biden quickly recognized the gaffe and and explained he was accustomed to thinking in terms of the San Francisco Giants and their baseball wins. His next reference was to the “49ers on their way” to the Big Game.

Richman reported he was ushered out of the fundraiser after Biden started taking a few questions from the audience of about 110 campaign contributors. “The event raised somewhere between $275,000 and $1.1 million,” according to his report.

The event was one of several stops Biden and his wife made in the Bay Area today.

Private Equity - Thanks to Pete DiCarlo For This!

For those enjoying the anti-private equity rhetoric. Here are some facts:
1-Private Equity on average has earned 30.6% annually since 1973 (an important date because that is when ERISA laws freed up pension investment).
2- A large percent of the clients of private equity firms (those who benefited from the 30.6%) are private and public pension plans (such as CALPERS or NYSCRF), university endowments, and oh yes unions! I love irony!

The Usual

A new book on the Obamas reveals that Michelle Obama was distressed and resented the power “white Irish Catholics” held in Illinois.
The Sun-Times reported:
Mrs. Obama worked in the Daley administration between Sept. 16, 1991, and April 30, 1993, according to City of Chicago personnel records. She was hired by Jarrett, then Daley’s deputy chief of staff.
Kantor writes Mrs. Obama “disapproved of how closely Daley held power, surrounding himself with three or four people who seemed to let few outsiders in — a concern she would echo years later with her own husband.
“…She particularly resented the way power in Illinois was locked up generation after generation by a small group of families, all white Irish Catholic – the Daleys in Chicago, the Hynes and Madigans statewide.”
When Jarrett was forced out of City Hall in 1995 — even though she was close to Daley — “the Obamas were horrified, their worst suspicions about the world confirmed.”

Disappointing

I Love This Quote From Mark Herzlich

Mark Herzlich rattled off the numbers without hesitation.

“There are 20 of us and 14 guys are playing in the playoffs right now,” Herzlich said.

By “us,” Herzlich was proudly referring to Boston College products in the NFL. Sure, he got the information from a tweet the night before, but it served as a glimpse into the Boston College football fraternity, which will be on display Sunday when the Giants host the Falcons at MetLife Stadium in an NFC wild-card game.

Of the 14 Boston College players on one of the 12 teams in the playoffs, four former Eagles are Giants and one — arguably the Falcons’ most important player — will be on the other sideline.
